Speak Good English .

'Engrish'? or English?
Speaking good English is a good way of communicating to other people. For example, when you do not understand other languages, we can always speak English to the other party which is of different race. Imagine if a foreigner comes to you and ask for directions and you speak singlish, he will try to understand what we are trying to say and will ask you to try to speak again. Tourist will look down on Singaporeans and Singapore will have a bad reputation. Even in China, they are learning English. English has become an international language for the whole world. That is why China students are now learning English. You will have to speak good English if you are to go to countries like the United States of America or Britain or you will be having a hard time communicating with the people there. English in Singapore is the 1st priority. For example, in school, to graduate to the next level, you will have to pass English, 2 other subjects and the overall percentage. From here, you can see that English is very important for education and your future. Although Singapore consist of many races, most of us are speaking Singlish. We need to take the effort and time to slowly learn English. Like Ms Ris Lo, yes she is the Miss Singapore Universe but can you see how she speaks English? Outstanding is 'BOOMZ' and bikini become 'Bigini'. If she represent Singapore at Miss World Universe and adress herself as a Singaporean, other countries will look down on Singapore. People will be wondering, how will she represent Singapore if her English is that 'good'?

Being a Singaporean

To me, being a Singaporean is to not to be racist as Singapore is a multi-ethnic country of various races. The races found in Singapore are Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian. That is why there is Racial Harmony Day. It is to know and learn what the other races are doing. Whatever that race is doing, the others must respect it. Without Racial Harmony Day, peace will not be found in Singapore. Racial riots had occured in the late 90s and the government do not want it to happen again. Second point of becoming a Singaporean is to serve the country. Singapore is practicing deterence so that Singapore will be and independent country and not be a colony of other country. That is why, male Singaporeans have to go to National Service at age of 18 to 21. Singapore is such a small country, but with money, arms and defence, Singapore will be and independent country. Singaporeans should be friendly with other countries too as we need the support of other countries for our basic needs such as water. Malaysia have been selling us their water, imported rice from Indonesia and many more. Singapore is a beautiful country and we should maintain the peace.

english AA draft 3

“Muthusami! Time to go to school” Mr Bala yelled. Muthusami, a Tamil, living in Sri Lanka have a miserable life. Parents working as tea planters. Muthusami is schooling at ‘Sinhala Government School’. He has many friends but not many of his friends were Sinhalese. Off go Muthusami to school.

“Well done Muthusami, you had scored the highest in this test’’, praised the teacher. Many of his Sinhalese students were jealous of him. He was bullied and humiliated by the students over there. Muthusami tolerated all the students’ behaviour and just kept studying as he wanted to work in government jobs. The criteria for him to go into university are to score higher than the Sinhalese there.

After examinations, Muthusami topped the school and tried to go into the university. He did not get admitted into the university. Muthusami was agitated with all the rules that the Tamils must follow. Muthusami wants to join the Tamil Tigers. Kumar, Muthusami’s friend, has a father which is a Tamil Tiger. Muthusami met up with Kumar’s father.
Muthusami then became a part of the Tamil Tigers.

Muthusami trained hard in the camp. He made a promise to himself that he will fight for the Tamil’s rights. The training at the camp was intense. Uniform were covered in sweat everyday. Trained to bomb, shoot and fighting close range, Muthusami was Eveready to fight against the Sinhala.

A war broke out in Muthusami’s village. It was very chaotic. Tamil Tigers went there as fast as they could. Went they had reached that village, Muthusami ran to his house. When he reached there, he saw pools of blood from his family were on the floor. “I have failed to protect my own family. The Sinhalas will pay for this.” Murmured Muthusami. Tea planters were hiding everywhere. Bombs falling like a slight drizzle was everywhere. The loud shooting sound was like a firecracker.

In a day’s time, the war was over. Survivors from the Tamil Tigers helped out and looked for survivors before heading back to camp. The Tamil Tigers soon hopped on the truck and head back to camp site. Suddenly…

“Halt! Drop your weapons and put your hands on your head!” Said a Sinhala soldier through a loudspeaker. The Sinhala army had ambushed the survivors. It is 500 against 100. The Tamil Tigers refused to do what they were told and began shooting the ambushers. The Tamil Tigers persevered. But all the Tamil Tigers including Muthusami were dead in just less than 1 hour. Leftover arms and sources were taken by the Sinhala army.

Euthanasia

Euthanasia : Also called mercy killing. the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die, as by withholding extreme medical measures, a person or animal suffering from an incurable, esp. a painful, disease or condition.

My point of view on euthanasia is that euthanasia should be banned in every country as everyone has the right to live. Euthanasia does not only happen to humans but animals also.Euthanasia may be conducted passively, non-actively, and actively. Passive euthanasia entails the withholding of common treatments (such as antibiotics, chemotherapy in cancer, or surgery) or the distribution of a medication (such as morphine) to relieve pain, knowing that it may also result in death (principle of double effect). Passive euthanasia is the most accepted form, and it is a common practice in most hospitals. Non-active euthanasia entails the withdrawing of life support and is more controversial. Active euthanasia entails the use of lethal substances or forces to kill and is the most controversial means. An individual may use a euthanasia machine to perform euthanasia on himself / herself.

Euthanasia should not be practiced in Singapore as Singapore is facing a lot of problems like economy downturn etc. If euthanasia is practiced in Singapore, more tourist will not come to Singapore and therefore affecting the economy.

Totto Chan

Totto Chan is a girl which got expelled from her school. She looked for a school and got into Tomoe Gakuen School. The headmaster of the school, Mr Kobayashi, love kids. Mr Kobayashi teaches the students in a very different way from other schools. he teaches stuffs that other schools did not teach. Totto Chan love that school, but her life changed when Tomoe Gakuen School got bombed during the war.

It was when the headmaster saw Totto Chan making a mess in the bathroom intrugued me. I tought Mr Kobayashi was going to scold her for the mess that Totto Chan had made. Instead, he asked Totto chan to clean up all the mess after she found her wallet. He left the bathroom after asking Totto Chan to clean up. This shows that he is a caring and understandable headmaster. Usually headmaster will scold students is any part of the school is in a mess.

I would honestly recommend this book to others as it is a very famous story and very interesting to read.

Xinjiang Riot

On Thursday, 9th July 2009, a riot broke out between the Muslim Uighurs and Han Chinese. Between 600-800 people died due to the violencein the chinese city of Urumqi. The riot broke out because the muslims complained that they felt discriminated under the chinese rule. One of the causes are also because of misunderstandings. I feel that it is not safe to stay in Xinjiang as you can see 600 - 800 people died. We do not know who could be killed during riots like this. To stop the riot, 1 representative from each party should meet up and sign a treaty so that they would not be rioting again and make peace. If this situation were to occur in Singapore, it would be best for me not to interfere as Singapore is a multi-ethnic country which consist races of Malay, Chinese, Tamil and Euraseans. But if ones strongly believe on its own race, they would fight for its rights for their race.
